Plain-English Legal Resources for NSW

Most people don’t think about needing a lawyer until they do, and by then they are trying to understand something unfamiliar, quickly and under pressure. These resources are here to make that easier.

Everything is written with NSW law in mind, by the people who would be advising you if you came to us. It won’t replace advice about your own situation, because the specific facts usually decide the outcome. It can help you understand the landscape, ask better questions and recognise when something needs proper attention.

A Note on Time Limits

Many legal rights are subject to strict time limits, and some are very short. Unfair dismissal claims generally must be lodged within 21 days. Family provision claims contesting a will generally must be made within twelve months of the date of death. Property settlement applications after a divorce are generally subject to a twelve-month limit, and de facto property claims to two years from separation. If something may be time sensitive, an early conversation costs far less than losing the option.

These resources are general information only and are not legal advice.
